Three programmes, one purpose

Each programme is built around a specific household situation. There is no generic curriculum — only structured conversations about what your household actually holds and needs to understand.

Our programme methodology

Every programme at Kinfolk Ledger begins with an intake session — a conversation where the facilitator listens more than speaks. This matters because the same topic, say household budgeting, looks very different in a couple with two incomes and no dependants than in a three-generation household with eldercare obligations and overlapping insurance policies.

From the intake, we confirm the focus of each subsequent session and prepare any relevant material — policy excerpts, budget templates, or reference guides. Nothing is sent before the session; everything is worked through together in the room.

Between sessions, households are encouraged to discuss what came up, check documents, or write down questions that arose. The interval is part of the methodology, not a gap.

Kitchen-Table Budget Conversations

Designed for households — parents with adult children, couples, or siblings sharing a home — who want to have a calm conversation about shared expenses and saving habits around a table. The first session is spent simply listening: each person describes how they currently think about the household's money. The second session, held a fortnight later, reviews a simple shared document drafted between sessions. The facilitator's role is to hold the conversation, not direct it.

What the programme covers

  • How each household member currently understands shared expenses
  • A jointly reviewed document of current income, spending, and saving patterns
  • Points of agreement and difference, named without pressure
  • A shared language the household can use in future conversations

Session structure

1

Session one (2 hrs): Listening session — each member speaks about current thinking. Facilitator takes notes only.

2

Between sessions: Facilitator drafts a simple shared document from session notes. Household reviews it independently.

3

Session two (~2 hrs, fortnight later): Household reviews the document together with facilitated discussion.

Programme 02

Understanding Household Insurance

A four-session programme for adults who have current insurance arrangements — life, medical, motor, home — and would like to understand them more fully before renewal or any change. Sessions cover the structure of common Malaysian policies, how to read a benefits schedule, the difference between traditional and investment-linked products, how co-insurance and deductibles work in medical policies, and how to approach an adviser with clearer questions. The programme does not recommend specific products; it helps the client become a more confident reader of their own documents.

Topics covered across four sessions

  • Structure and terminology of Malaysian insurance and Takaful policies
  • Reading a benefits schedule and understanding exclusions
  • Traditional vs investment-linked life products — key structural differences
  • How co-insurance, co-payment, and deductibles work in medical policies
  • Preparing clearer questions for your insurer or agent at renewal

Programme duration

Four sessions of approximately 90 minutes each, spaced one to two weeks apart. Covers four to six weeks in total.

Programme 03

Three-Generation Household Review

A three-month engagement tailored for households where two or three generations live under one roof and share financial responsibilities in a way that deserves careful discussion. Meetings cover shared living costs, individual saving patterns, intergenerational support arrangements, insurance coverage across generations, and longer-horizon considerations such as eldercare and property succession. The engagement is paced to allow family members to consult each other between sessions. Closes with a short written summary the family keeps for its own reference.

What the engagement covers

  • Shared living costs and how they are currently divided
  • Individual saving and contribution patterns within the household
  • Insurance coverage across all generations — gaps and overlaps
  • Eldercare considerations and related financial responsibilities
  • Property succession discussions at a level appropriate to the family
  • Plain-language written summary provided at programme close

Engagement duration

Multiple sessions across three months, spaced to allow reflection and family consultation between meetings. Number of sessions varies by household complexity.
